Here are my 2 princesses all dressed up and ready to watch William and Kate....Natalya is so excited she's been dressed up since 8am, and pretending to be Kate.....I hope at the age of 5 she'll be old enough to remember this day....
Welcome to Rag Hearts........
Hi all I have started on a new hobby of rag rugging and cushion making that I would like to share with you.
Firstly I was creating them for my own home as they make any room look homely and warm, and soon my friends and family were interested and I have been creating for them. And that has now lead to me setting up my own shops on folksy and ebay please check it out.
All of my materials are recycled so the colours in my designs may vary. I can make to your own colour and shape requirements.
I hope you like my designs and want a piece of my art in your home.
I am also a big art fan in general. I loved art at G.C.S.E level back in high school, it was then that I discovered that I was good at it. Then I took 2 art A-levels 3-d art and fine art, and a separate year long course that covered everything.
I really enjoyed the 3-d art especially the jewellery making that we got to try. I found the fine art quite restricting as we had to just copy like for like and I don't like concentrating on detail and accuracy. I love colour, shape and expression, big bright and bold are my favourite ways to work.
I enjoy looking at the shapes in plants and flowers and the forms and curves they make. I also take a big interest in their colour, colourful flowers really cheer me up.
I hope you enjoy my drawings and painting as much as I do xxx

I'm finally being able to self indulge
I have had a little break in orders for the first time in 3months so I have eagerly started my own colourful rug for my living room. It is very colourful as I have rummaged through my scraps and used them all up on this rug, so it's cost me nothing which is always a bonus. I still have the leaf rug on order but I'm waiting to get some brown material to finish that off.
I've spent yesterday aranging my new bookcase....

I fancied some painting today....
Looking at my exam piece on my living room wall has inspired me to dig out my paint brushes. I haven't painted for ages and it was really nice. Cerys was asleep and Natalya was having tea at a friends so i took advantage of the quite time. I am really loving the garden at the moment with all the new flowers opening up so I used that as inspiration. I like working with thick acrylic, the thinker the better, and i always mix the colours on the page as i'm working. I love that you can see the colours mixing with each other after it's dry. I'm not a fan of perfection, i love the rough look, i don't like precise, measured out art work, i love it when you can see alot of free expression in someone's work.
In this first piece i have taken the colours from the garden and layered them on really thickly, then drew some simple leaf shapes in the wet paint.....
I had some frames i picked up from charity shops left over so i framed 2 pieces, i really like them, i love the orange against the greens...
This second piece i have created from one of my images on my 'home and garden' page of my blog....it is the centre of my hanging basket....i think the thick swirls of colour especially the blue and white are gorgeous....

Easter car boot sale
I've just arrived back from a car boot sale at the shore, I went looking for green t-shirts and it must have been my lucky day as I found loads. We got there at 8am, and had a walk along the beach at 8.30am and a cuppa tea on the front, it was really nice to be out so early, we're not normally even dressed by 8am. I was surprised at all the early birds down at the shore having a jog or a walk. Here are my finds...So i'm gunna start chopping away...

My Art exam
My dad has been having a clear out and given me my portrait that i did for my GCSE art exam. I love it and have put it on my living room wall.
We had to do a piece by one of our favourite artists and personalise it. I chose to re-create Henri Matisse's 'Green Stripe'. I changed the hair and eye colour to suit my own, the idea behind the green stripe is to show the two different sides people have.
I love the large dramatic brush strokes and the colour. It proves colour is important and very expressive. It was very enjoyable to paint as I could work more freely than usual with the big strokes and thick paint, it's not mean to be a perfect, accurate portrait, it's purpose is just to be expressive.

This will be the most special rug i've ever made....
One of my friends has asked for a rug that's mostly green, and inspired by leaves which i thought sounded really nice and was happy to design. She lost her husband 2yrs ago and still has a wardrobe full of his clothes that she can't bring herself to part with. She's asked me if i could use his t-shirts that are the right colour for her rug in the rug. I think that is such a lovely idea, it means she doesn't have to throw them out but makes good use of them instead.....i really want to get cracking with this rug for her as i no it will mean alot and be sentimental to her. Here's my design.....
Cosy bedroom...
I'm tucked up in bed at 8.30pm with my hubby, he's tired from work and i'm tired from alot of walking. We have the tv on and candles lit nice and cozy.... i'm chopping away ready for my next order.

I'm trying out some new wall hangings please let me know what you think
I want to try something on a small scale that will be a bit quicker to complete. I am using up all my scraps so they will be multi-coloured....Hopefully it will look nice on my bedroom wall.
I love the oranges, browns and greens in this swirl design, very earthy colours that work well together. The blue heart design has filled a little space on my bedroom wall nicely on it's own, but i am trying to find a nice way of attaching these 2 earthy designs together so that they can be hung down from each other....i'm trying to think of a material to do so that would look nice and hang right....
Musical note rag rug
I've nearly finished an order for one of my friends and i think it's looking pretty good. My friend is a music teacher and wanted something personal, i hope she likes it when it's all done...
